July 23, 2007, the first comprehensive regulations in 43 years were issued (published July 26, 2007). The regulations package reaches out beyond 403(b) to also provide guidance on 414(c) common control for certain tax-exempt organizations. 
There's a lot going on in Lansing these days. In an effort to keep up with all the latest Legislative news, we've excerpted articles from MIRS Capital Capsule, Gongwer, and MASA's Legislative Update (thanks to Brad Biladeau) to keep you abreast of things. 
Holding down the cost of health insurance for employees is a major issue for all employers. Michigan schools are no exception, in fact the situation is probably more profound than for most private sector employers. But we have the tools to address our problems…with several important caveats. 
By now your school district has started the 2007-2008 school year. It’s exciting to watch children bright with anticipation for the first day of school. Students of all ages have been shopping for school supplies and will be entering your schools with new clothes, new backpacks and some anxiety that the back-to-school season has begun and summer vacation is officially over. 
Ssshhhhh! Don't tell my district's auditors, but this was the first time in more than 20 years in public education that I have taken a week's vacation in August. (Our auditors normally arrive about the last week in August, so hopefully I will be able to make up the time evenings and weekends to be ready for the audit.) |
