School has started and I am excited for my students, staff and our community. At a state level, the 2012-13 school year may prove to be a watershed year for education. With the proposed constitutional amendments to protect collective bargaining on the November ballot, many of the reforms that occurred last year may be in jeopardy. The Annual MDE/
Lake Shore Public Schools started fostering a relationship with a school in Beijing, China in 2005. The program started out with having middle school students make two-week exchange trips. Within five years, Chinese high school students started attending Lake Shore classes for extended periods. 
The transportation department, in many school districts, receives more parent concerns on a daily basis, than all the other district departments combined. The transportation department provides a service vital to the school district’s customers and carries with it the potential to be a valuable public relations tool.
